Glass Animals Are Trapped In an Airlock on New Single and Video

stayc main image

“YOU BLEW ME to stardust,” Glass Animals lead singer Dave Bayley sings on the U.K. band’s latest single “Tear in Space (Airlock).” The tantalizing track swirls with synths over a pulsating beat as Bayley’s falsetto compares an all-consuming love to being trapped in the pressurized, in-between area of a space shuttle. Trippy shit, right? This new single is a prime example of Glass Animals' ability to blend intricate soundscapes with deeply emotive lyrics, creating a unique listening experience that captivates and mesmerizes.

“Tear in Space (Airlock)” is the newest single from the band’s fourth studio album, I Love You So F**ing Much*, set to be released on July 19. To accompany the track, Glass Animals also shared a black-and-white music video that plays into the sci-fi elements of the song and the album overall. The video, directed by Taylor Fauntleroy and Drew Kirsch, finds Bayley fighting gravity (and for his life) in a literal airlock chamber while symbolic objects from a dinner table shatter in front of his face. “A ‘Tear in Space (Airlock)’ explores a love that is all-consuming, forcing you to bend and stretch yourself around the other person to the point where you lose yourself, stretched so thin, squashed so small, you are almost invisible,” Bayley said in a statement. This visual and lyrical exploration of love and identity showcases the band's innovative approach to storytelling through music and video.

The album, I Love You So F**ing Much*, was announced in April, along with the lead single “Creatures In Heaven.” Since then, the U.K. outfit shared the news of a massive international tour for later this year, much to the delight of their global fanbase. This upcoming album will be their fourth and follows 2020’s Dreamland, which spawned Glass Animals’ massive hit “Heat Waves.” The new single also comes with the official announcement that “Heat Waves” is now RIAA Diamond Certified. With this new release, Glass Animals continues to push boundaries and solidify their place in the modern music landscape, promising fans an exciting and immersive new chapter in their musical journey.
