Read moreOmar Apollo has just released his latest single, 'Less Of You,' offering fans a glimpse into his evolving musical landscape. This track is the third single from his highly anticipated second album, ‘God Said No,’ and it draws heavy inspiration from his experiences with the vibrant nightlife in London.
Following the earlier releases of 'Spite' and 'Dispose Of Me,' 'Less Of You' stands out as a testament to Apollo's exploration and growth as an artist. While recording ‘God Said No,’ the Indiana-born singer immersed himself in London's eclectic music scene. His time in the city deeply influenced his sound, leading to a fresh and captivating musical direction.
‘God Said No’ is set for release on June 28 and features collaborations with notable artists Mustafa and Pedro Pascal. The album, produced by Teo Halm, delves into themes of love and loss, with its title reflecting the Spanish phrase 'Lo que será, será,' which translates to 'Whatever will be, will be' or 'It is what it is.' This sentiment stems from a conversation Apollo had with a friend about a past relationship, encapsulating the idea of giving everything to something only to face an inevitable end.
After dropping his debut album ‘Ivory’ and touring extensively, including supporting acts for SZA and Billie Eilish, Apollo spent three months in London during the autumn. This period was marked by his deep dive into the works of artists like Kate Bush, Labi Siffre, and Lana Del Rey, as well as poets Mary Oliver, Victoria Chang, and Ocean Vuong. This creative sojourn significantly shaped the sound and narrative of ‘God Said No.’
Apollo's debut album 'Ivory' received rave reviews, with NME describing it as “a collection of gorgeous, sultry songs” that blend emotionally rich alt-R&B, funk-pop, and indie elements. Now, with ‘God Said No,’ Apollo promises an even more intimate and expansive journey for his listeners.
The album was crafted with the help of producers Teo Halm, Carter Lang, and Blake Slatkin, with recording sessions spanning iconic studios like London’s Abbey Road and various locations in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami.
As for live performances, fans are eagerly anticipating Omar Apollo's upcoming show in Toronto on September 4th, 2024. This performance is expected to showcase his new material from ‘God Said No’ alongside beloved hits from his debut album. His evolving artistry and heartfelt performances are solidifying his place as a standout talent in the music industry.
