Born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1996, Carti's introduction to music began at an early age, as he dabbled in both writing and formulating beats. However, it wasn't until he gained prominence through his debut mixtape "Playboi Carti" in 2017 that his career truly took off. The mixtape, featuring hit tracks like "Magnolia" and "Wokeuplikethis*," showcased Carti's unconventional flow and ad-libs that would become his signature style. The tracks' minimalist yet infectious beats created a hypnotic backdrop for Carti's unique vocal delivery.
Carti is from Atlanta, Georgia, and is arguably one of this generation's most influential hip-hop artists. Carti has a very distinctive voice and flow that is hard to replicate, being a reason why he is so successful. Carti has a very distinct fashion sense, wearing all-black leather clothes and big chunky footwear. His brand represents a vampire, referring to himself as “King Vamp”. This style heavily influenced his supporters and it became a trend dressing like a “Vamp”.
In December of 2020, Carti released his second studio album titled “Whole Lotta Red”, a highly anticipated album as it was his first drop after two years since his album “Die Lit” was released in May of 2018. This album was one of the most experimental hip-hop albums ever released, with chaotic energy and unique vocal effects. It became what is considered to be the most influential hip-hop album of all time. The album even influenced artists such as Trippie Redd to produce similar-sounding music and gave credit to Carti. Since the release of Whole Lotta Red, Playboi Carti has disappeared from social media and the music scene in general. Carti has posted once on Instagram, teasing a new album, but then never releasing it or even speaking about it again. This left fans waiting, thus boosting his mysterious persona.
