In June, Tory Lanez made headlines by dropping a fresh single titled "Hurt Me," a creation that emerged from behind bars as he awaits his sentencing in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case.
Despite his confinement, the Canadian crooner remained steadfast in his musical pursuits. He partnered with his fellow One Umbrella artist, Yoko Gold, to release the first of what he promised to be a series of new tracks. He declared his jail cell as his newfound personal office, as he shared his intentions on Instagram.
"Hurts Me" swiftly gained prominence, becoming an almost inescapable presence on popular social media platforms like TikTok and Reels, capturing the attention of audiences far and wide. This song, originating from Lanez's enigmatic 1980s-themed album "Alone at Prom" released in 2021, was finally introduced to digital streaming platforms on June 30. The response was nothing short of surprising, with devoted fans offering their applause and others serving serious criticism and backlash for the use of the song on TikTok.
The creative synergy between Lanez, Yoko Gold, and Trippie Redd, who strategically unveiled the track as part of his own "A Love Letter To You 5" campaign, resulted in a captivating sonic experience.
Amid this musical journey, Tory Lanez faces a weighty legal ordeal. He's currently confronting the possibility of a maximum 22-year prison sentence if found guilty of unlawfully possessing a loaded firearm in a vehicle. The forthcoming chapter in his legal proceedings is set to unfold on August 7.
